More narrowing

The inner part of the shock tower is cut away.
The holes are for spot welding the reinforcement plate and shock towers together.
.

Test fitting the plate.
It's going to be welded to the torsion housing, shock tower and upper shock mount.
.

Test fitting the shock mount.
It's going to be moved 1o-12 mm outwards and shortened by the same amount on the outside. This is to clear the inner fender and make the shock and shock tower line up better.

Narrowing the front beam

These two pics were taken a few weeks ago.
Got an extra front beam that's going to be narrowed about 15mm/side to avoid rubbing the fenders. I'm not after the shopping trolley-look on this one. I think this should be just enough to run 5.1/2 rims with 135x80 15 and clear the fenders.
.

The profiled inner part of the shock tower is cut away to reinforce it internally. The inner part is going to be totally flat, which makes it possible to take away the 15mm/side without modifying the car.

First post

This blog will cover my 57 Oval.
.
It was originally sold in Skövde, Sweden, but ended up 1300 km further north in Övertorneå, where I found it. According to the papers the car was in traffic until April 1976. I don't know why it was taken out of traffic, but the owner had several cars to drive, among others a mid sixties Type 3 Variant.
.
I bought it August 2007 and I will be on the road in May/June 2009. The car appears to be very good condition besides the paint [L324 "Polar Silver"] and some parts of the interior [54 Green]. The paint is really worn but it's going to remain that way. It's hard to beat a dulled out metallic paint where some primer and surface rust shines through. The pan and body apperas solid. No rust basicly, only a few small ones around the rolled fender edges.
.
Didn't have the possibility to do anything with it in 2007 because it was stored too far away. During 2008 I got the original brakes to work and started the engine, mostly see how much work the car needs. Almost everything works, apart from the left brake light and the horn which should be easy to fix. The whole brake system will be replaced - don't like to gamble with a single circuit brake system that's been unused for more than 30 years.
